SOMATICS AND POSTURE WORK
Let’s get something out the way first - there’s no such thing as ‘good posture’. Yup. There’s no single perfect posture that equals a pain free, perfectly aligned you. There’s just no solid evidence for it. What matters is this: how long you stay in any one posture. That way pain lies.
Moving and changing position as often as possible: e.g. alternating between standing and sitting at a desk is better than perfecting your keyboard/screen/chair position. But there are tricks and tools you can learn and use to make sure that, well, sitting - as we all do so much of the time - doesn’t kill you.
Think about this: your head weighs about as much as a bowling ball! You want to ensure that its positioned at the top of your spine in a way that bears that weight well putting the least possible strain on your neck and shoulder muscles which in turn pull on your lower back muscles. Where is your head now as you read this?
If your movement and posture habits are a factor in why you have pain and tension, the good news is that small changes can have a huge impact.
By combining BSR with Clinical Somatics and breathwork, you will become more aware of your body and know how to sit, stand and move in a way that creates space, stops pain and undoes tension.
