Hello I’m Laine
The Good Body Space is the result of over 25 years of curiosity. Curiosity that has taken me all over the world researching, trialling (and mostly rejecting ) anything & everything to do with relieving pain. (I’m a journalist by training so rest assured this is a pragmatic zone.)
It all comes down to this: 3 complementary techniques that tackle the whole of pain. And by that I mean not just the bit where it hurts, but understanding the underlying causes and the adjustments you can easily make to live well. Joyfully even.

The Consultation: Getting to know ‘Your’ pain
Pain is pesky, it sneaks around the body, wipes you out, messes with your mind. Comes and goes. Your pain isn’t anyone else’s pain. You may share symptoms and sympathy with others, but how you got your pain is unique to you (aren’t you lucky).
That’s why before we do any work. We chat. And not just your 10 minute tick box type of chat, this is a safe space for you to really connect more deeply with your pain. Inside and out. Next comes the plan. A plan that works for you, your lifestyle, your budget.

A. Body Stress Release
Body Stress Release (BSR) is a safe gentle bodywork technique that helps your body reengage its natural healing ability, by using a precise pattern of ‘releases’ where tension has become stuck and pain has set in. The technique recognises that the body reacts to stress in a highly organised way along lines of tension.
Releases are firm but gentle using thumb or fingers along these lines. After BSR you’ll feel like you’ve had a massage. Good for back, neck, shoulder pain, chronic tension and stress-related issues.
B. Embodied Talking
I gained a certificate in humanistic counselling from the Gestalt Centre in London because it became clear to me when treating people in pain that a holistic approach is the only approach.
The Good Body Space is a safe space where you can have the option to share beyond the physical symptoms. Particularly important if you are suffering from ongoing or unexplained pain or tension as a result of trauma. The combination of embodied talking and BSR can be very powerful.
C. Somatic & Posture Training
The thing about pain from repeated poor movements or posture over time, is that if we don’t change how we do what we do every day, we recreate the same issues.
Clinical Somatics Exercises use mindful ‘pandiculation’ (tensing then releasing rather than stretching) to reorganise the way your body moves and to re-sensitise your brain’s proprioception. Sounds a bit complicated but Somatics exercises are, in my mind, the most effective way to make deep and long-lasting changes to our movement habits.
