BODYWORK

Bodywork means hands-on therapy. Some people feel more comfortable knowing that you get to keep your kit on during our sessions. If for any reason you are unable to lie face-down for the session (for example if you’re pregnant or it’s too painful to lie on your front), you will be able to lie on your side or to stay sitting.

I use Body Stress Release (BSR) as the foundation for hands-on work. A BSR practitioner is trained to work with the body to test for patterns of tension and to use small but firm impulses to release against those lines of tension.

What is a line of tension? You’ve probably noticed that when you have a pain or tension, the rest of your body is also involved. For example, if you have a frozen shoulder on your left side, your right is shifted slightly too, in order to compensate, and this compensatory alignment that happens with every injury, repeated poor posture or ongoing stressor - causes habitual lines of tension.

The brain’s map of the body doesn’t shift though and over time a disconnect develops between where your body actually is in space and where your brain thinks it is. BSR and somatics is the best way I have found to re-mind the brain to the body by resensitisiing the nervous system.

It feels wonderful too!

You will lie face-down on a massage table, fully clothed for about 20 minutes, then on your back for a few minutes.

Pulses on your body are gentle and never iinvasive. You should not feel any pain.

You will be given advice and demonstration for ways you can manage your nervous system., ease your own pain and manage stress.
